i Gotta Tri
Adult Co-Ed Beg/Int
Triathlon Training Program

FAQs

Q: I am not much of a swimmer and have never done this type of thing before, is this really something I can do?
A: Yes, this is absolutely the group for you. While you do need to know how to swim, we will give you the confidence and training to complete a super-sprint or sprint triathlon. This type of group training is the support you need to reach the finish line!

Q: What will the workouts consist of?
A: You have a choice of attending 2 of 3 weekly group workouts at Sunset Whitney CC in Rocklin on Midas. Those workouts will be your 2 weekly swim workouts and will be coupled with a bike or run workout as well. We will practice transitions to prepare you. You will also receive a plan each week to complete additional run/cycle workouts that you can do on your own or plan to meet up with other i Gotta Tri teammates.

Q: Do I need a bike?
A: Yes, you will need a bike for training and the event. We will begin the training program focusing on cycling so a bike is needed from the onset. You do not need anything too glamorous...borrow a bike that a friend might have tucked away in their garage (bring it over to Sharp Bicycles for a tune-up), check out Craigslist (if you want advise on a specific bike...e-mail Lee or Kendra at kendracendana@usa.net and we will help you out) or stop by Sharp and check out the bikes they have there. Mountain bikes and road bikes will do the job.

Q: What other gear do I need?
A: Swim suit (Women: one piece or a workout top and bike shorts or swim bottoms. Men: Jammmers- speedo style bike shorts). A wetsuit is optional for open water swim as well as race day. Not only will it give you warmth but help with buoyancy. You will also want to wear goggles, a swim cap is highly recommended and sunscreen for those sunny pool days. Optional gear could be a nose plug. For the bike, you will need a helmet, gloves if desired, tennis shoes or clip in shoes, and a rear view mirror affixed to your bike or helmet is recommended. For the run, a pair of fairly new, properly fitting running shoes and sunglasses.
As we prepare for the race, will will get more specific on optional gear for race day but this will pretty much do the job.

Q: How old do you need to be to participate?
A: This is an adult training program and there will not be a lifeguard on duty. High school age is the minimum with parental consent. There will be kayak safety support for open water swim days.
